Alan Sunderland was born in Perth , grew up in Melbourne , worked in Canberra , and now lives in Sydney .
His job as a television journalist for SBS and the ABC has taken him around the country and overseas. He has reported on demonstrations in East Timor, coups in Fiji , and politics in Canberra , and won two Walkley awards. He is still working in journalism, but these days he likes to write children's books as well as news and current affairs stories.
His first book for Scholastic, Toy Wars , was written as a bedtime story for his first two sons, Nicholas and William, who appear in Chapter One. His second book, Cosmo Cooper and the Lemons of Lockbarrel, arrived at around the same time as his third son, Patrick.
Alan's latest book is part of Scholastic's My Story series. Refugee: The Diary of Ali Ismail, Woomera, 2001-2002 is about a young Afghani boy who comes to Australia seeking asylum.
Alan lives in Lane Cove with his wife Julie O'Keefe, all three boys, and a very big car to fit everyone in.
