Moya Simons writes . . .

I was born in Moree, NSW. I have been writing for children for the last eight years. My very first book, Iggy from Outer Space, was published by Omnibus.

The themes of my books tend to fall into two areas—I love writing sci-fi for kids and also enjoy writing about family situations. My work is often humorous and light. As such, it is very often used in schools to encourage reluctant readers. I write mainly for the 8-12 age group.

I have been shortlisted for YABBA twice (Dead Average—Omnibus) and for the WAYBRA award.

I love going out to schools and talking to kids about writing. I try to inspire in them curiosity and enthusiasm for their own creative efforts.

I have two grown-up children, Suzy and Tamie, and lots of houseplants.

My pet hates are cabbage, cucumbers and people who whinge.

My loves are chocolate, baked potatoes, walking, reading, dancing and being with those I love.

My books have been published in the USA, UK, Germany and Malaysia, and the Dead books are due for release in France in February 2002.
