Rodney Fox

Author

Rodney Fox is regarded as a miracle survivor of one of the world’s worst shark attacks. In December 1963, aged 23, he was attacked by a great white shark and was badly bitten around the chest and arm. Despite the attack, Rodney has continued to dive and to study the great white shark, and has led over 200 major expeditions to film and study his attacker.

Regarded as a world authority on the great white shark, Rodney Fox also has a great reputation as an expedition leader and a producer of films. With his wife, Kay, he runs the Rodney Fox Shark Experience Museum and Gift Shop in the South Australian seaside town of Glenelg. The museum features a collection of many full-size shark replicas, cages from the movie Jaws, giant fossil teeth, a large collection of shark jaws plus spectacular photos and displays. The theatrette shows highlights from the 80 films and documentaries with which Rodney has been involved. Rodney lectures at his museum, consults and co-ordinates film crews, and arranges and guides tourist adventure trips specialising in great white sharks, whale sharks and other marine creatures.

Rodney has been a guest speaker at a diverse array of conferences and festivals in countries including the USA, the UK, Israel, Japan, Italy, New Zealand, Spain and Australia. His films and public appearances to discuss the great white shark have educated swimmers and divers on the potential dangers of shark attack. His message: ‘We must learn to live with sharks and not simply kill them out of fear’.

Rodney is happily married to Kay and they have three married children—Andrew, Lenore and Darren—and six grandchildren.
