In 1989 Allan Baillie achieved the distinction of having two books short-listed for the Children’s Book Council of Australia Book of the Year Awards—Megan’s Star and Drac and the Gremlin. Whilst Drac and the Gremlin went on to become Picture Book of the Year, Allan went on to write many more notable and award-winning books.
Allan visited China in 1987 and 1989 and was present at the time of the Tiananmen Square uprising. These visits and experiences led to the powerful picture books Bawshou Rescues the Sun; The Boss and Rebel! (short-listed in the Children’s Book Council Picture Book of the Year Award in 1995).
Allan has written several titles published by Omnibus Books—Mates and Other Stories; Little Monster; and Last Shot.
His most recent picture book by Scholastic Australia is DragonQuest, a journey to find the last dragon, short-listed for the 1997 Children’s Book Council of Australia Picture Book of the Year Award.
