Scholastic Australia

Roland Harvey

In 1978 Roland Harvey established Roland Harvey Studios and began designing and producing greeting cards, posters and stationery with a distinctive Australian flavour. Ventures into publishing quickly followed. He has illustrated The Friends of Emily Culpepper; My Place in Space (with Joe Levine); My Book About Me; Milly Fitzwilly’s Mousecatcher, and has won several awards and commendations.

Burke and Wills, one of a series of historical picture books recently re-released by Scholastic Australia, was short-listed for the 1986 Children’s Book Council' Junior Book of the Year Award and won the Clifton Pugh Award in the same year. Other titles in this series include: The First Fleet; The Eureka Stockade; and The Crossing of the Blue Mountains.

Roland’s witty slapstick style is widely appreciated by children. He was also the creator of the zany and enormously popular Super Grouch Calendar Planner Diaries.

Roland revels in ‘spontaneous sillicisms’ and uses pen, ink and watercolour.
