Award-winning author/illustrator Patricia Mullins remembers drawing constantly at school. Encouraged by her creative mother, Patricia trained at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and gained a Fellowship of Illustration in 1974. She subsequently became an illustrator and a puppet-maker, and spent several years overseas perfecting her craft.
Patricia has illustrated an impressive array of children’s books including Hattie and the Fox (Scholastic Australia); Crocodile Beat and Dream of the Dusky Dolphin (Omnibus Books); and The Magic Saddle; The Sea-Breeze Hotel; Dinosaur Encore; and V for Vanishing (Margaret Hamilton Books). Her favourite media are collage, linocuts and mixed media that achieve striking results—unique works that are rich in colour and bring a sense of texture to the pages. One Horse Waiting for Me showcases Patricia’s remarkable talent and displays her passion for horses.
Patricia lives in Melbourne with her husband John and son Hamish. They share their house with a dog, a family of rabbits, a terracotta dragon, a community of budgies, and various toys and wooden horses, all of whom provide inspiration for her illustrations. Patricia’s favourite pastimes include toy-making, soft sculpture and restoring old rocking horses.
