Peter Allen is married with two children and is one of Australia 's best-known journalists. Prior to his retirement in 2005, he worked in the newspaper industry for nearly 50 years. He spent the majority of his career working for Fairfax Media, which publishes The Sydney Morning Herald and The Sun Herald. He was editor of The Sun Herald, while it was Australia 's biggest-selling newspaper, for five years in the early 1980s. His last position with Fairfax was as Editor-in-Chief of more than 40 community newspapers in NSW and Victoria.
Peter has written nine books, four involving Sir Donald Bradman. They include My Australian Story: Our Don Bradman, the children's book published by Scholastic Australia.
Peter played representative cricket at both high school and senior levels, and also played first division soccer.
