Kim began writing when she was in Year 5/6 thanks to the encouragement of her
teacher. "It was amazing to me that I could just make 'stuff happen' simply
by putting pen to paper… it was a little bit like being given magic powers"
Kim says.
She became a primary school teacher and loved reading stories to the class.
"It was my favourite time; sometimes I even found myself changing the story
to make it a bit more exciting. I like the way children see and interpret the
world" she says.
Kim lives on a beef cattle farm in the Hunter Valley, in NSW. She was inspired
to write The Farmer's Hat after her husband returned from working the
land without his much-loved hat.
The Farmer's Hat is Kim's first title with Scholastic Australia.
