Mbobo Tree illustrated by Annie White
A tree growing in an African village and a girl named
Tiranamba become the central focus of this story which
has a legendary feel. The bold vibrant colours reflect
the harsh landscape and the richness created through use
of oil paint helps capture the atmosphere of the story.
The Race for the Chinese Zodiac illustrated by Sally Rippin and Regine Abos
The classic Chinese legend is retold as thirteen animals
race for only twelve places on the Chinese Zodiac. Who
would come first? And who would miss out? Sally Rippin's
illustrations convey the energy and life of the story
with simple line drawings placed on textured coloured
backgrounds designed by Regine Abos. Do you know what
a Chinese chop is?
Stranded illustrated by Mark Wilson
Based on actual events, this story tells of the beaching
of whales and one young boy’s unwillingness to give up
in the face of seemingly hopeless odds. The beautiful
illustrations by Mark Wilson capture the emotion,
movement drama as the story unfolds.
