School Excursions

?Moulding? with Lindsay Muir

Programs involve primary or secondary students in an interactive session focusing on authors and illustrators and their approaches to writing and illustrating picture books, by sharing original preliminary and finished works. Programs support VELS in the area of:

  • English
    • texts (literature)
    • contextual understanding of texts
    • linguistic structures and features of texts
  • Arts
    • graphic communication
    • visual arts
  • SOSE
    • time, continuity and change
    • place and space
    • culture

Detailed teacher's notes and student activities provided. Contact with school organiser enables staff to tailor programs to individual school needs, eg curriculum focus, students' interest, year level.

Program Options

Education
  • Education program
    2 hour program in Gallery rooms focusing on current exhibition.
    Cost $4.40 per student.

  • Meet the Artist Program
    Visiting authors/illustrators share their craft as part of the education program.
    Cost to be advised.

  • Three-day residential workshop
    A unique opportunity for students to work intensively with an author/illustrator over three days on writing and/or illustration projects.
    Cost $95.00 per student (includes accommodation and workshop).

  • Design your own program to suit your needs.
    Cost negotiable.

Tertiary Visits

Dromkeen seminars are suitable for tertiary students of Children's Literature; Education; Preschool, Primary and Secondary; Librarianship; Graphic Art and Design; Professional Writing and other related courses. Programs developed to support specific needs. Cost $6.60 per student. Education session includes tea & coffee.

Professional Development

Dromkeen staff provide professional development for teachers, consultants and librarians in using children's literature to support English, Arts and SOSE curricula. Conferences and seminars with invited guest speakers are held throughout the year. Dromkeen staff are available to conduct professional development sessions at meetings or conferences.

Venue Hire Only

Conference Room, Kitchen, Lunchroom, Artroom, Sunroom and Gallery Room available for hire. Catering can be arranged, please contact us at Dromkeen for further details.

Teaching Resources

Dromkeen produces teacher resource kits to assist teachers in planning for using picture books to support English, Arts and SOSE curricula. All kits include classroom support material.

The Dromkeen Newsletter contains everything schools need to know about Dromkeen programs. Newsletters are mailed to schools early in Terms 1 and 3.
