Awards and artistry: Celebrating the CBCA
An exhibition of original preliminary and finished artworks from a selection of past and present, short-listed, and award winning Children’s Book Council of Australia ‘Books of the Year’. The artworks display a diverse range of illustrative mediums and artistic styles, showcasing the talents of many of Australia’s most well known and successful illustrators including Shaun Tan, Bob Graham, Jeanie Adams, Patricia Mullins, Donna Rawlins, Jeannie Baker, Pat Torres, Julie Vivas, Margaret Power, Annette Macarthur Onslow, Ron Brooks, Lynne Tracey, Peter Pavey, Peter Gouldthorpe, Geoff Kelly, Sally Rippin, Jan Ormerod and Alison Lester.
The exhibition also provides a historical perspective of Australian children’s literature with the inclusion of many landmark publications. Storyboards, dummy books, working drawings, reference material, and rejected artworks reveal the creative processes behind picture book publishing.

Dromkeen Medal
Congratulations to Dr Patricia Edgar, winner of the 2007 Dromkeen Medal for her contribution to Children’s Literature.
The award was presented to Dr Edgar at the annual Dromkeen Dinner, held at The Windsor, Melbourne on 29 February, 2008. Her citation reads:
“Working with some of Australia’s most creative children’s writers, Patricia was a driving force behind the acclaimed television programs Winners, Kaboodle, Touch the Sun and Round the Twist”.

Dromkeen Librarian’s Award
Congratulations to Jenny Katauskas, winner of the 2007 Dromkeen Librarian’s Award presented at the Literary Luncheon, December 2007
The 2007 recipient of the Dromkeen Librarian’s Award was Jenny Katauskas, Managing Librarian, of The Book Bunker, a library for children at The Westmead Children’s Hospital, N.S.W. Jenny is a passionate volunteer whose tireless dedication has kept literature with children at Westmead Children’s Hospital. Working as Managing Librarian, Jenny co-ordinates 30 volunteers in the challenging environment of the hospital’s unique library, The Book Bunker. In addition, she works one day a week in the library and throughout the hospital with children in difficult circumstances. Always looking for new ways of extending the service, Jenny has been instrumental in making the Book Bunker an integral part of patient care.
Jenny received the award in recognition of her tireless work as the Voluntary Coordinator of the Book Bunker, a library for children at The Children’s Hospital Westmead, N.S.W.

Sue Norris, Young People’s Librarian of Gladstone City Library was Highly Commended for her vision and continued dedication in establishing and coordinating the Curtis Coast Literary Carnivale.
