Dromkeen Collection Art Gallery

Dromkeen is a 19th century Australian country homestead which houses an historic and contemporary collection of original, finished and preliminary illustrations from Australian children's books. Dromkeen is just 30 minutes drive past Melbourne Airport.

The Collection also comprises:

  • manuscripts, working documents, supplementary material,
unpublished works, an overseas illustration component and author/illustrator information
  • a valuable and prestigious collection of Australian children's books
  • a comprehensive children's literature reference library

Assisted access to the Collection and Reference Library is available by appointment. Research can also be conducted on an applicant's behalf. Accommodation is available for extensive research projects. Fees apply.

'Dromkeen is the ideal location for anyone with an interest in books for children. The skilled supportive staff, the collections of contemporary and historical books, the archives, and the galleries should be considered a national treasure.'

Jan LaBonty, Ph. D. Associate Professor, The University of Montana
