As part of the International Year of Forests, Scholastic worked in partnership with the Australian Orangutan Project and classrooms around Australia during Term 2, 2011 to save the orangutan and its rainforest habitat.
Students were encouraged to complete a range of activities to 'earn 100 points for the environment' in an effort to 'Save a Tree - Save Me'.
Through the sale of $3 wristbands on Busy Bee, Wombat, Lucky, Arrow, Star and Special Offer a staggering $20,000 was raised to go towards protecting and supporting orphan orangutans in rehabilitation care centres in Sumatra, where just 7000 orangutans are left in the wild.
THANK YOU to everyone who participated and contributed to such a worthwhile initiative!
