May is National Family Reading Month National Family Reading Month encourages students to Read Every Day. Last year over 500 schools participated in the celebrations and 12,500 students entered the draw by pledging to Read More in May.

We invite your school to be part of the celebrations and take part in National Family Reading Month by hosting a Scholastic Book Fair in May 2012.

What is National Family Reading Month?
Now in its 16th year, this initiative was designed to get more kids reading with their families. In May 2012 we challenge your students to read for 15 minutes every day with a family member.They can go online during May and enter a draw to win one of 25 Reader Prize Packs valued at $250. If a student at your school wins then your school will also win a $1000 Scholastic Gift Voucher. Winning schools will have until the end of December 2012 to redeem their gift voucher.
Participating schools will receive promotional posters to encourage students to Read More in May. Plus you can copy and distribute flyers for students to track their progress throughout the month.

Guest illustrator for National Family Reading Month 2012 is Louis Shea
A popular and highly acclaimed Australian illustrator, Louis Shea's talents are evident in There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Mozzie, Where's Santa? and There Was an Old Bloke Who Swallowed a Chook. His new book, There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Thong, has just been released in 2012.
